The charter
of Orthodox medical
Society
in the name of St.
Blessed Xenia of Petersburg in Kolomna.
The orthodox medical society
of Kolomna is a humane society uniting doctors of different specialties
practicing orthodox religion. Members of the Society can be orthodox
Christians having higher and secondary medical, biological,
pharmacological, psychological education, participating in the Society
activity authorized by the Charter.
I
The Purpose of
the Society:
1) assistance in development of
medical activity on the basis of the Orthodoxy and Christian morality,
2) development of conformity of
opinions
in complicated
questions of modern medicine,
3) consolidation of a healthy part of
society against satanism and opposition to occultism.
II The
Society is aimed
at solving scientific-educational and practical tasks, taking a precise
civil and public stand, asserting moral beginnings in daily professional
(medical) life, protecting state and national principles in estimation of
different public phenomena.
III
Scientific-educational
tasks:
1) estimation of modern medicine and
biotechnology problems in the view of the Orthodox Church
doctrine;
2) conducting missionary activity for
acquaintance of wide medical public with bases of orthodox
doctrine;
3) conducting missionary activity
among students of higher and secondary special educational establishments
on propagation of a healthy way of life (refusal of smoking, alcohol,
drugs, abortions, occasional and antenuptial sexual relations
etc.);
4) promoting patriotic orthodox
education;
5) making statements in Orthodox radio
"Blago (Good)" broadcasts;
6) editing “The Medical bulletin”
newspaper;
7) meetings with orthodox scientists,
ecclesiastics, theologians;
8) seeing films on
medical and doctrinal themes.

Practical
tasks:
1) organization of a system of
qualified diagnostics, medical and preventive help on the basis of
treatment-and-prophylactic establishments in Kolomna and also some Moscow
centers;
2) setting up
prayer rooms in
treatment-and-prophylactic establishments in Kolomna;
3) assistance in revival of charitable
and social-medical aid in parishes and monasteries;
4) giving legal advice and help to
physicians in difficult moral and ethical situations;
5) analyzing and solving problems
connected with the Society tasks;
6) bringing
to the Church and
spiritual strengthening of members of the Society by carrying out
catechistic programs and organization of pilgrim trips;
7) communication with the Society of
orthodox doctors of Moscow and the Moscow region (Chairman - prof. A.V.Nedostup), The
Soul-caring Center in the name of St.
Righteous John of Kronstadt (the head - priest Anatoly (prof. A.Berestov)), The Society of
orthodox doctors of Petersburg, Simferopol, etc.;
8) planning the establishment of a
soul-caring center with participation of priests and doctors, carrying out
out-patient rehabilitation of patients in the Medical center in honour of
St. Blessed Xenia of Petersburg in the Holy Trinity New Golutvin
convent;
9) carrying out practical activities
of the society - helping believing patients mainly in their work places
and in the Orthodox medical
centre of the convent.
10) promoting expansion of the Centre
activity.
V
Structure of
the Society
1) the supreme supervising body of the
Society is the General Meeting.
2) the Board led by Chairman
supervises the work of the Society between assemblies;
3) the Board consisting of 7 members
is elected for a 2-year period through voting by show;
4) enrollment in the Society is
carried out by the Board after filling in the Form.
5) The Board includes:
- Chairman;
- Deputy Chairman;
- Deputy Chairman on scientific-educational work;
- Deputy Chairman on treatment-and-prophylactic
work;
- Executive secretary;
- Technical secretary;
- Treasurer
6)
Departments of the
Society:
а)
scientific-educational;
b)
treatment-and-prophylactic;
c)
publishing.
7) the heavenly patroness of the
Society is St. Blessed Xenia of Petersburg;
8) coordination of the Society
activity of is carried out by the Board together with the Holy Trinity New
Golutvin convent;
9)
membership dues are raised once a month in the sum of 10
rubles;
10) regularity of the Society sessions
is once a month on every third Saturday at 12 o'clock in the afternoon.
Changes are allowable upon the decision of the Board;
11) subjects of reports are discussed
on the Board before every month;
12) Members of the Society
should:
- aspire to personal active church life (observe
fasts, reading a set of everyday prayers, the Gospel, Psalter,
confessing and receiving the Holy Communion regularly etc.);
- attending sessions and planned actions
regularly;
- performing assignments imposed by the Society;
13)
Members of the Society
should not be engaged in any medical activity that contradicts Orthodox
outlook.

Charter was discussed at the General Meeting of the Society on February
16, 2003, and accepted with all corrections unanimously.
