The big event for the
convent was a second visit of the Most Holy Patriarch in connection with
commemorating of the 200th-anniversary of the convent and the
10th-anniversary of the renewal of monastic life, which took
place on August, 29, 1999. The
Primate visited all the three
convent churches, looked over an exposition of a conventual museum, and
also became familiarized with the Medical center by surveying all
consulting rooms, speaking with sisters-doctors. On a celebratory dinner
in the reconstructed One-pillar chamber His
Holiness congratulated and awarded benefactors and workers participating
in the revival of the convent. On a place of former waste ground the Most
Holy Patriarch, Metropolitan Yuvenaly and Mayor of Kolomna
V.Shuvalov planted
apple-trees, thus laying out a conventual garden, which yields fruits
nowadays. The
Primate granted the convent an icon of
the Presage of the Holy Virgin Theotokos with a memorable inscription. In
his salutatory word the Most Holy Patriarch told:
“Ten years in a history of the Russian state, and in life of the Church, as well, is a small term. But it is difficult to describe, it is necessary to see what has been made here, in the convent for 10 years of its revival. It’s the Holy Trinity New Golutvin convent that the revival of church life in the Kolomna land began with. A lot has been made for this time both in arrangement of conventual economy, and in the field of social service – particularly, to those who especially requires support during our uneasy time: here they show care of children that have stayed without parents. Children find both care, and support here, but the main thing is that they find love here. It is a pledge that they will become worthy citizens of Russia.
Those surprising works of applied art created in the convent will surely leave nobody unfazed”.
